Guinea
Open Field has partnered with the Chris Nedelcovych Soccer Foundation (CNSF) to expand our reach beyond the borders of Cameroon to Guinea, West Africa, to support more youth to gain leadership and life skills through transformational experiences on and off the soccer field. 20 years ago Sally and Mima Nedelcovych tragically lost their first-born son, Chris, in a dreadful car accident at the age of 17. To consol themselves in a small, meaningful way and to keep Chris’ spirit alive they founded the Chris Nedelcovych Soccer Foundation (www.cnsfund.org). The mission of the Foundation was based on the principle of “Youth Coaching Youth”, a principle that Chris so eloquently illustrated in his college application essay, entitled “The Greatest Gift”. In the essay, he explained how he inspired his younger brother's soccer team to turn a bad season into a good one. Over the years, CNSF has been able to financially assist more than 200 aspiring young men and women in the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Africa to improve their coaching and life skills, supporting them with scholarships to attend soccer coaching clinics, camps and tournaments, to strive to reach for what Chris called “The Greatest Gift”. The official launch of programming in Guinea is planned for December 2021.
