The University of Dayton (UD) held the second annual Kickin’ It For Cameroon Soccer Tournament on Sunday, April 17th, at the University of Dayton’s Stuart Field. Thirty one students from UD’s “Sports in a Global Community” class have been working on this event, meeting each Thursday to plan the tournament. They created a Fundraising/Sponsorship team, Digital Marketing team, Analog Marketing team, Operations team, Campus Recruitment team, and an International Recruitment Team to cover all aspects of the tournament.
It was a great turnout with 10 teams playing. The team that won was named “NARPS” which included a few varsity soccer players such as Nicole Waters (2014/2015 A-10 Midfielder of the Year) and Ashley Campbell (2015 A-10 Offensive Player of the Year).
In addition to the tournament, the UD students set up a Crowdrise campaign, which so far has raised over $850. The Fundraising/Sponsorship team also received donations from 7 different restaurants and other companies in the Dayton area. They even received donations from local soccer clubs such as the Dayton Dynamo, Dayton Flyers Soccer, and Columbus Crew. These donations were raffled off in gift baskets. Combined with the tournament, the group raised over $1100, and are still holding fundraisers at local restaurants. The group also donated equipment to CameroonFDP such as soccer balls, cleats, and jerseys.
Thank you to these dedicated UD students for all their hard work! If you are interested in setting up a similar tournament, please check out our page here.
