CCAC College Program Scholarship

This program aims to provide financial assistance to deserving student athletes to pursue their education at Community College of Allegheny County and is limited to full time students who participate in the Club Soccer program facilitated by Open Field.

The first scholarship fund created to support CCAC student athletes on the club soccer teams is therefore named in Chris’ honor, with financial support from Sally and Mima Nedelcovych.

Our First Scholarship:

The Chris Nedelcovych Scholarship

The idea for the scholarship program was suggested by Sally and Mima Nedelcovych in the fall of 2023. Sally was serving on the Open Field’s Board of Directors and Mima had helped to facilitate a partnership between Open Field and their foundation in Guinea the previous year.

Mima and Sally tragically lost their first-born son, Chris, to a dreadful car accident at the age of 17.

They found consolation and persisted to keep Chris’ spirit alive through the good works of the Chris Nedelcovych Soccer Foundation that they established in his memory soon after his passing.

Our Second Scholarship:

Champions On & Off the Field

The second scholarship fund, Champions On and Off the Field, initiated by Kendall Fairley, was designed to support student athletes’ success at CCAC. Kendall joined the Open Field team as a member of the Young Leader Board in 2024 and was very clear about his commitment to supporting youth involved in our programs from the start. While developing the focus for the scholarship fund, Kendall said:

The scholarship’s goal is to assist those in need who aspire to have successful careers, whether they continue in sports or pursue other paths. I’ve been a Pittsburgher all my life, growing up in the Braddock area. Unfortunately, I did not have the financial means to attend college. As one of six children raised by an amazing single mother, I understood the importance of continuing education from an early age, however, work has always been a significant part of my life.

This scholarship aims to support students who demonstrate excellence in both sports and academics. It is designed to help individuals who may face financial challenges in pursuing their education and career goals. This scholarship is designed to provide hope and support for those who need a little extra help to make their dreams come true.
